Introducing Smoothie Booster! What's in the Bag & Why

Golden milk has been one of our most popular products since we opened our doors. Now we've made it even easier to bring it into your morning!

Smoothie Booster is turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper, plus seven certified organic mushrooms and fava bean protein. All in one bag so you can stir it into what you're already making!

Two tablespoons add 5 grams of plant protein and 2 grams of fiber, with no caffeine and no sweetener added for taste. In this post, we break down every ingredient, share why a spice company made it, and show you the easiest ways to start using it.

Most of us aren't looking for a brand-new morning routine. We're looking to make the one we already have a little better.

That's the whole idea behind Smoothie Booster. It's not a meal replacement, and it's not another tub of powder you choke down because you think you should. It's a spoonful of the spices Indian kitchens have been reaching for every day for generations, plus seven organic mushrooms and plant-based protein, made to stir into whatever you're already making.

Turmeric. Cinnamon. Ginger. A little black pepper. It tastes like golden milk, because that's exactly where it came from. Smoothie Booster is those same spices in a new format, built for the way people actually eat breakfast now.

    What's in the Bag

We wanted every ingredient to earn its spot. Here's the whole list.

Turmeric is the backbone. Earthy, warm, a little bitter, and responsible for that gorgeous golden colour. In Sanskrit, it's haridra, which became haldi in Hindi, and it has been part of Indian cooking and culture for nearly 4,000 years.

Cinnamon brings a sweet-smelling warmth. It's the reason Smoothie Booster tastes naturally sweet even though we didn't add any sweetener for flavour.

Ginger keeps everything bright. The word itself traces all the way back to the Sanskrit srngaveram, meaning "horn-shaped," after the knobby shape of the root.

Black pepper adds gentle heat and depth. It's native to the Malabar coast of southern India, and it shows up next to turmeric in Indian cooking and in most traditional golden milk recipes.

Seven certified organic mushrooms: shiitake, lion's mane, chaga, turkey tail, cordyceps, maitake, and red reishi. They add a quiet, earthy savoriness that plays beautifully with the spices! We wrote a whole post on getting to know each of them.

Faba bean protein (that's fava bean) gives every serving 5 grams of plant-based protein, along with 2 grams of fiber. It's what turns a smoothie or a bowl of oats into something that feels a little more like a meal.

    That's it. It's dairy-free, gluten-free, plant-based, and caffeine-free.

“We wanted every ingredient to earn its spot. The spices for flavour, the mushrooms, the protein, and that's it. No sweetener added for taste, no scoop, no extra plastic.” - Kelly Howard, Spicewalla’s Director of Product Development

Why a Spice Company Made Smoothie Booster

Turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon aren't wellness trends to us. They're some of the most important spices in Indian cooking and some of the most loved jars on our shelf.

Spices have been part of daily life in India for thousands of years, in curries and chai, in ceremonies, and in the remedies grandmothers swear by.

Ayurveda, India's traditional system of medicine, has always put food and daily routine at the center of how you take care of yourself. There's even a word for it: dinacharya, the idea of a daily routine that sets up the rest of your day.

The most famous example might be haldi doodh, literally "turmeric milk.” Warm milk and turmeric, and we love to include some combination of ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, and a little something sweet. It's what plenty of Indian moms hand their kids on a cold night. These days, cafés call it golden milk.

Smoothie Booster brings those same spices into a format that fits how a lot of us actually eat breakfast now. Want the full story of how it came to be? It started in Molly and Meherwan's kitchen; read the full blog here.

“Turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper. None of this is new. It's what's in every Indian kitchen. We just made it easy to get into your morning.” - Meherwan Irani, Founder

A Quick Note on What's in the Bag

You've probably read a lot of big promises about turmeric and mushrooms online. Some of it has real research behind it. Some of it doesn't. We'll leave that conversation to doctors and dietitians, who know you and your body far better than we do.

What we can tell you is what's in the bag, where it comes from, and how good it tastes. We think that's plenty. Meherwan said it best, “I'm a chef, not a doctor. I'm not going to tell you what this will do for your body. I'll tell you it tastes like the golden milk I grew up on, and that's reason enough to drink it every day.”

    How to Use Smoothie Booster

    A serving is 2 tablespoons.

You won't find a scoop in the bag. And that's on purpose! Because we didn't want to add another piece of plastic to your kitchen drawer. Your regular measuring spoons work great!

Start with the thing you already make every morning:

    • Smoothies. Blend 2 tablespoons into any smoothie. The berry smoothie on the back of the bag is a great first try.
    • Golden lattes. Froth it into warm milk. Add a drizzle of honey or maple if you like it sweeter.
    • Coffee. Stir it into your morning cup for something warm and spiced.
    • Oatmeal and overnight oats. Stir it in before cooking or before the jar goes into the fridge.
    • Pancakes and waffles. Whisk it into the dry mix.
    • Yogurt bowls and chia pudding. Stir it straight in and watch everything turn gold.

One tip from our test kitchen: most of the blend dissolves, but turmeric never fully dissolves in anything, ours included. For the smoothest drink, use a blender or a milk frother. If you're stirring with a spoon, whisk it into a small splash of liquid first to make a paste, then add the rest.

We've got recipes for smoothies, protein pancakes, a golden latte, a golden mocha, and oatmeal ready to go!

Glow up your routine. Start with a spoonful!
